This is a recipe by a family friend. They are the best baked beans I have ever had.
I remember having them for the first time at a 4th of July cookout. I placed a tiny spoonful of them on my plate--trying to be polite by trying them, but thinking, "Hey, they're baked beans. I know they'll be yucky." I ate a little bit of everything else and then, after taking a deep breath, placed a timid little bit of the bean stuff into my mouth. I was about to just swallow it when LO and BEHOLD, my taste buds screamed, "WAIT! This stuff is GOOD!"
Try the recipe. These beans are truly different from run-of-the-mill baked beans. They're really good.
"Different" Baked Beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can green lima beans
2 large cans pork and beans
1 can butter beans
1 pound bacon
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 cup vinegar
3 to 4 sliced onions
Chop and fry the pound of bacon, but do not drain the grease.
In a large Dutch oven, add the bacon and the beans. Mix and cook on stove or bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 to1 1/2 hours. Or you could cook it in a slow cooker on high for 1 1/2 hours.
Skim off fat before serving.
Of course, this is not my favorite baked bean recipe, although it is an extremely good one. Click over to The Best Baked Beans in the World to read about and see the recipe for the absolutely finest baked beans known to man.

Fix-It and Forget-It Cookbook: Feasting with your Slow Cooker We usually feature bean cookbooks here, but this superb slow cooker (crock pot) cookbook has at least a hundred great bean recipes in it! My wife brought it home and I'm sold on it. The "Bean Main Dishes" section alone has 53 recipes. Recipes are short, simple, tasty, and don't use weird ingredients that you don't already have. And, while I'm excited about the bean recipes (the Sausage Bean Quickie will be the first one we try), the rest of the recipes also look wonderful. The cover says it's a "National #1 bestselling cookbook!" I believe it. Highly recommended by Bean Bible!
